Friday, the end of the working week for most people and for more than half of Sydney siders, those of us renting and about to move, this weekend will again be one we spend looking at 2 bedroom properties with a sunroom and a hallway advertised as 4 bedroom properties.
IT is getting harder for families to rent a home let alone own one with the cost of many homes exceeding the lifetime income of many families.
We talk about higher profits for banks squeezing the consumer market as much as they can but that isn’t going to change because they are in it for profit and have been since before The Merchant of Venice was written.
If improvements are to come then they will come from governments changing their restrictions on land use.
I’m not talking about just more public housing but that is needed.
The greatest difference to reducing the cost of housing and reduce travel time to work will be to make the available land available for more uses.
That will open more land for new housing and business to work together to reduce development restrictions so more people can live and work in the same area.
Governments talk about affordable housing, but on the issue of taking action?
