The debate over whether or not same sex marriage should be allowed in Australia and if it even is what name or form it should be given is certainly a controversial one and last week it took a rather unusual twist.

Margaret Court is well known in the tennis world for her achievements in her early days,

Among her tennis playing achievements
Margaret Court won 62 grand slam titles - 24 singles, 19 women's doubles and 19 mixed doubles.

She is now a well known Christian Minister and pastor of a church in Perth in Western Australia and has spoken out against same sex marriage legislation voicing her opposition and in doing so seems to have copped not just criticisms but there are even people like Doctor Kerryn Phelps who want to remove Margaret Court’s name from the Australian Tennis Open Arena that was named in Margaret Court’s honour.

Now this is where things get interesting.

Of course people are going to have disagreements about the things they believe in including issues about various government policies.

But some campaigners including some homosexuals seems to think that they have a right to do and say whatever they want and no one else should be allowed to enjoy the same freedoms or free speech.

The issue of gay marriage is one that pretty quickly divides the community.

In one corner you have those in favour.
In another corner those opposed.
Then you have people who really don’t mind either way, and in the other corner there are a few people still trying to work out what they think.

Frankly I’m opposed to gay marriage, I think marriage stands for, well marriage, between a man and woman, a husband and a wife.
While I’m being perfectly blunt I’m not a big fan of the whole homosexual, gay lesbian, bi transexual transgender lobby campaign that tries to guilt trip the rest of the community into not speaking up about their views on what is traditionally called a marriage.

Now a lot of people will tell me I’m out dated and maybe even that I’m wrong.  

Don’t get what I said confused.  I’m happy to speak with, work with, live beside people whatever their views or their sexuality is, and I don’t have a problem with that.

We live in a democratic country.
If I don’t agree with an outspoken group of the community am I still able to freely and peacefully express my views without fear of being hauled before the anti-discrimination tribunal?
