The debate over whether or not same sex marriage should be allowed in Australia and if it even is what name or form it should be given is certainly a controversial one and last week it took a rather unusual twist.

Margaret Court is well known in the tennis world for her achievements in her early days,

Among her tennis playing achievements
Margaret Court won 62 grand slam titles - 24 singles, 19 women's doubles and 19 mixed doubles.

She is now a well known Christian Minister and pastor of a church in Perth in Western Australia and has spoken out against same sex marriage legislation voicing her opposition and in doing so seems to have copped not just criticisms but there are even people like Doctor Kerryn Phelps who want to remove Margaret Court’s name from the Australian Tennis Open Arena that was named in Margaret Court’s honour.

Now this is where things get interesting.

Of course people are going to have disagreements about the things they believe in including issues about various government policies.

But some campaigners including some homosexuals seems to think that they have a right to do and say whatever they want and no one else should be allowed to enjoy the same freedoms or free speech.

One of the challenges, to someone who openly promotes freedom of speech, occurs when you are constantly confronted by other people who say things that are, well confronting.

Thanks to modern communication people are able to research a topic and share photos and information on things like Facebook profile.

A few of my friends are not just vegetarians but are very active campaigners for vegetarianism on the grounds of health reasons.

They also strongly believe that humans should take care of animals and not use them for sport, entertainment or for food.

Recently one started posting some extremely confronting images to get people thinking about treating animals with some respect.  

I also belief we should respect animals and treat them right and I believe we shouldn’t silence other people just because what they say or write might be a bit awkward to learn about.

The images I saw describe a BBQ as a cremation and show deer driving a 4WD with human bodies draped across the front of the bonnet.

Which begs the question:  If we don’t like what we see or hear should we silence the messenger?
