International Invisible Illness Awareness Day

Today, May 12th, is international Invisible Illnesses Awareness Day, now you might wonder what on earth is an Invisible Illness and how do you know about it if it is invisible?

These are the conditions people don’t see, Like MS, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome, Myalgic Encephalitis, and Fibromyalgia to name just a few of the labels given to the myriad of symptoms of things affecting their day to day lives that they live through but no one else can see.

Around 5% of the world’s population have these conditions and constantly suffer from conditions like intense and unrelenting pain, constant fatigue, painful and uncontrollable muscle spasms.

They are called invisible conditions because when you look at them you can’t see an illness like a broken leg or swollen joints but nevertheless their illness is real and it has a real and devastating impacting on their lives.

For 18 years I’ve lived with a neurological condition that is an invisible illness and frankly I’ve tried to hide it from a lot of people.

Why?

Do you think most people are understanding?  Turn It Up.
