Japan's radioactive warning to energy options

The earthquake and Tsunami disaster in Japan last week may yet be eclipsed by a nuclear disaster, and our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected in the region, and we all hope that authorities get the reactors under control....quickly and safely.

The whole thing is yet another a reminder that we live on a dynamic planet.

Between the effects of the sun, above us, the universe around us, the molten core of the earth beneath us ...and upon which the crust floats and our continents constantly move around.  Then there is the atmosphere, the oceans, and all within, that sustains us.

It also reminds us that there are many more factors involved in the future of our civilisation than just thinking about carbon or even carbon dioxide.

The current nuclear crisis across between four and up to a dozen locations in Japan is a sobering reminder of the very real dangers to be considered.

Sure producing electricity from Uranium may seem like a cheap alternative but to call it a safe one ...

.... Turn It Up.

Prime Minister Offers Victims a Flood of Helpers

Prime Minister Offers Victims a Flood of Helpers

There are a number of difficulties for Julia Gillard, as Prime Minister, in dealing with the Queensland floods, not the least of all is the stark reality that she faces, yet again, with the reminder of Kevin Rudd's electorate being front and centre. While he and the Queensland Premier are in Queensland working for their local area Julia Gillard risks the appearance of being over extending her Prime Ministerial reach in trying to offer the nation's help to make herself look good politically.

Recently some political commentators have spoken about everything from her choice of clothing to her controlled mannerisms, and her disciplined style of speech right through to how much help the Prime Minister has offered to flood victims.

Things like the financial assistance as well as military emergency assistance in the search and rescue and the clean up effort. Such commentators sit in their offices and speculate on what the public's perception might be in regards to the Prime Minister's offering of help.

It got me thinking.

While Australians are in need, and the nation has the resources to help them I don't particularly care for what the Prime Minister's motivation might be so long as the help is getting through.
Is the Prime Minister offering too much military help just to make herself look good? Turn It Up...I'm Michael Robinson
