When I heard the news that Molly Meldrum had taken a fall and been seriously injured I was concerned for the bloke.
Now I don’t know him any more than the next person but I think most of us care about other people even if we don’t know them well.
The injuries that this entertainment industry icon sustained were certainly serious and no laughing matter
Of course the irony is that if he survives and and his recovery is good, as it appears it will be, then this entire incident will be turned into fodder for comedy.
Many people laugh about serious issues just to get through the difficult times.
They’ll talk about the wording of the news and how they heard that Molly had fallen from a pedestal not a ladder.
Some joke punch lines will be about Molly falling from a great height … out of favour with the TV i... ndustry and others will make some comment that he’s taken a long time to open his eyes.
When people use humour to cope with serious issues does it mean they don’t care?
