When is a tax not a tax?

The American Government’s Department of Agriculture, commonly called the USDA, has just announced that they will delay a decision on putting a 15 cent levy on the sale of live, or what we’d call fresh cut Christmas trees until after their next Presidential election.

Now you can easily be forgiven thinking that 15 cents per tree doesn’t sound like a lot of money, and I mention this because of similarities between the way our Carbon Tax is being sold to Australians.

In 2007 Americans bought 31 Million fresh cut trees for Christmas but that was down 6 million trees from 1991 so the various industry groups have come up with this plan in conjunction with the government.

The USDA calls it a consumer levy that is to be charged by the industry to create a new $2million industry body to advertise and promote the live fresh cut tress over artificial trees.

They will continue spin this as an industry body charging a small fee, but this is actually the USDA imposing a 15 cent tax to create a new government department.

If you multiply 15 cents by 31 million trees you quickly realise that someone is actually collecting more than 4 point 6 million dollars

So it is not a tax, and it is good for the people?

Australia's day to remember political breach of trust by the parliament.

I have said it before and I will said it again.

Yesterday’s passing of the carbon tax legislation was a breach of democratic trust.

There are, of course, many views on this whole issue, but we shouldn’t ignore the spin  from the Independents and Labor who keep repeating the line that they believed that Tony Abbott would have done anything to be Prime Minister.
The reason they are saying that is to distract people from the reality.

The reality is that Julia Gillard and her Labor Party MP’s actually DID do anything and everything it took for them to gain power.

If you look at the last election:  The majority of the Senators and MP’s from every state and from the three major parties, Liberal, National Parties and the Labor party, all promised there would be no carbon tax and were elected to a Parliament with a combined no carbon tax majority in the parliament.
Yesterday’s back-flip by the entire Labor party broke an election promise and dismissed all pretences of Australia being a democracy.
That breach of trust gave a handful of Greens and three independents the power to ignore the clear democratic wishes of the Australian people and impose their socialist taxation scheme on this nation.
As for comments about an Australian tax scheme saving the planet .
