Pauline Hanson may be the spoiler in NSW

l looks like Pauline Hanson wants to, and instantly has, stirred up the political debate in NSW.
Frankly I am disappointed she decided to run in this NSW election.
Her involvement on the Upper House ballot paper may just be the spoiler that puts the Greens into the controlling position.

Let me explain.

Basically too many independent candidates splits the votes and takes votes away from other NSW Independents and minor parties who might have otherwise had a chance of getting elected.
She risks splitting the anti major party vote, and those votes of various groups and independents who are raising some of the same issues.

Instead of those votes getting 1 or maybe even 2 representatives into the NSW Upper House the result might mean something like a single party on the opposite political spectrum actually get more number one votes and then are around longer to collect the preferences.

Too many candidates can actually defeating the campaign they were promoting.

Of course some may ask what if she does get elected?

Bearded one hides being out in the cold

It has been an interesting few months in Federal politics, who is the real Julia Gillard and why has Rob Oakeshott grown a beard?
One of the big stumbling blocks Oakeshott hasn't been able to get over was the way the Liberal party was going to save money by not paying suppliers who haven't supplied anything, the government, treasury and Independents labelled it an anomaly, and it was because we all know the Labor government's willingness to spend money whether they got value for it or not.
Since that time we know there has been a widening gap between some of the independents, particularly Rob Oakeshott and the Liberal party's side of politics, and that gap continues to grow even wider.
At the same time as growing a beard, Oakeshott has decided not to continue formal meetings with the Opposition.
Now some around the country have claimed he's trying to cover up something, but as anyone who has had to be in Canberra during winter will understand …. an Independent out in the cold in a Canberra winter needs all the love and warmth they can get, even if they have to grow it on their own face.
As things get colder in Canberra you can understand him wanting to hide his face behind a thick bread, can't you? Turn It Up.

Do we get...Value for public money spent.

I thought today I'd just take a look at one aspect of one issue, of the BER, Building Education Revolution, and the Stimulus payments and why the Federal Opposition are listening to the public and focussing on this issue.

This is something that I have been disappointed in the independents in the parliament and their lack of interest in requiring the government to focus on getting value for money when it spends the public money.

The government's intention and focus for the stimulus spending was.... to spend it, it was not the government's focus or priority to get value for money, that would have delayed projects and their focus and intention was to spend that money quickly.
When asked about value for money at the time the government's response was along the lines of … spend it and spend it fast and don't worry about those sorts of things.
So now we are supposed to believe that just because Julia Gillard said the magic words “value for money” suddenly the entire focus of this government has done a one eighty from one that spends money as quickly as it possibly can, with very little concern about value for money to now be a government that is focussed on getting value for money?
