Give prevention a genuine chance before saying it hasn't worked.

Hot on the heels of the recent drug-legalisation group's big promotional tour to Australia the Sydney Morning Herald has published a news story about the floundering Federal and state governments' amphetamine crack down.

But what more can Australia's current drug policies do when we have the government advisory body itself divided and floundering on focus and direction and so instead of having clear and focussed policy with clear direction, backed up by action by law enforcement supported by education and medical intervention. Instead we have a half baked drugs policy that guarantees its own failure, and you might well ask is that in fact their way of setting Australia up for full blown legalisation?

Of course critics of "Prevention" will say it has failed, and will point things like the cost of this $20 million amphetamine crackdown program and the lack of its effectiveness & say it has failed but what they won't say is that the government's own drugs policy advisors have managed to white ant government drug policies to ensure their failures to put Australia in a no-win situation.

So we have a Federal Labor government needing the Greens to retain power and the NSW March state governments election very much dependent on what the major political parties do on policies like drug policies and their dances with the minor parties. There are some who want to swap preferences and do a merry dance with the Greens. You know what I say...Turn It Up. I'm Michael Robinson.

Our Freedoms under attacks

Today The Australian newspaper carries survey results from a Macquarie University survey that reminds us that some in our society are so closed minded that they put the views of atheists and agnostics forward as true and factual and anyone with any other view is treated as somewhat mentally ill and derided.
This has been an attitude by those with spontaneous and self inspired wisdom on the “left” of political discourse and it is hypocritical because if someone had labelled those who don't believe in God has having disturbing beliefs and mocking their views as being simply made up you know they wouldn't stand for it.
Religious instruction in schools is protected by constitutional law (The reason church run schools were given over to the state to run was because the state “promised” to protect these rights) and it is so in order for parents to ensure that the religion they believe is taught to their children.

It isn't a matter for some university lecturer or some philosophy student, or even some radical political social experimenter to decide what your children and mine should be taught about what our family's religious believes. Scripture class is the final place where parents still get to have any influence over how their own children are educated.
I thought we still living in a country where the importance of the family, freedom of religion and freedom of speech were important and protected – yeah right - Turn It Up.

Enforce the law

There is a guy in Switzerland, Bernard Rappaz, he is on a hunger strike because he was growing cannabis and it is illegal so the authorities took him to court and he got 5 years and 8 months imprisonment for violation of the country's federal drug laws.

Now he is on a hunger strike because he says he has a right to engage in civil disobedience for his political cause for the legalisation of cannabis, which he conveniently calls hemp  ... (they are the same plant).

His supporters, naturally, are not only defending his right to grow and use dope but also his hunger strike and now this is where it has gotten interesting. Rather than the debate be about enforcement of the laws of the land or even a debate about the merits or otherwise of legalisation, by going on a hunger strike in prison Bernard Rappaz has turned the national debate on this issue about whether doctors are allowed or even forced to keep him alive against his will to serve out his prison sentence or should doctors just let a man die because that is what he wants to do?

Some are even suggesting that the law should not be enforced on Bernard because he strongly opposes it …. TURN IT UP.

Energy plan that will turn a gas into a gasp.

Today we have news that gas fired electricity generators are going to replace coal based electricity to heat the heart of Sydney, why? Simply because electricity is considered dirty by the modern standards of today's social experimenters.

The reason they aren't using solar is quite simple too. We aren't boosting the Australian renewable energy industry because most government subsidies purchase equipment made offshore so instead of helping consumers and producers to improve technology and reduce overall short term and long term costs what the government funding the the Green industries is actually doing is raising prices but not efficiencies.  Instead of advancing the industry government funding, how it is being applied, is artificially inflating prices and government debt as well.

So, in what only Clover Moore's lot would call wisdom, The City Of Sydney is planning to install gas powered turbines throughout the city and instead of burning that "black and dirty coal stuff that is just turning carbon captured sun energy into electricity and CO2" now they are going to burn gas and release Nitrous Oxides and other toxins right in the middle of the city, right where Sydney sider's breath.

You may well think that on top of the cars this is simply going to add more pollution into Sydney – ahhhh well that is where you and I would be WRONG.

Clearly the plan is to progressively choke the roads and push cars out of the city so that pollution from cars can be replaced ...

....by pollution from other sources

...that are replacing the pollution from electricity ... TURN IT UP...I'm Michael Robinson
