Japan's radioactive warning to energy options

The earthquake and Tsunami disaster in Japan last week may yet be eclipsed by a nuclear disaster, and our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected in the region, and we all hope that authorities get the reactors under control....quickly and safely.

The whole thing is yet another a reminder that we live on a dynamic planet.

Between the effects of the sun, above us, the universe around us, the molten core of the earth beneath us ...and upon which the crust floats and our continents constantly move around.  Then there is the atmosphere, the oceans, and all within, that sustains us.

It also reminds us that there are many more factors involved in the future of our civilisation than just thinking about carbon or even carbon dioxide.

The current nuclear crisis across between four and up to a dozen locations in Japan is a sobering reminder of the very real dangers to be considered.

Sure producing electricity from Uranium may seem like a cheap alternative but to call it a safe one ...

.... Turn It Up.

More hot air about hot air and the Carbon Tax we are supposed to have .... and how 'they' intend to make us want it.

The Gillard government is now asking the Productivity Commission to hold an inquiry to see what other countries are doing on this issue of fixing a price on carbon.

Its more than a bit odd, and more than unnecessary because they government, should already be able to tell us what the rest of the world is doing on this pet issue of theirs. But they want the apparent credibility of an inquiry finding that they aren't taking Australia down the garden path alone.

Mind you don't expect to see any remnant of logic in that report or a real inquiry whether a carbon tax is necessary, in the country's interests or the better option because the inquiry will be all about what is an option they can justify, not the option we really need.

The Prime Minister yesterday lectured the Opposition on their stubbornness to continue insisting on some sort of scrutiny over the government's other pet project the $43 Billion technology largess into the NBN all the while herself refusing to send either the carbon tax or the NBN off for any close scrutiny by any government body.  Turn It Up!

Energy plan that will turn a gas into a gasp.

Today we have news that gas fired electricity generators are going to replace coal based electricity to heat the heart of Sydney, why? Simply because electricity is considered dirty by the modern standards of today's social experimenters.

The reason they aren't using solar is quite simple too. We aren't boosting the Australian renewable energy industry because most government subsidies purchase equipment made offshore so instead of helping consumers and producers to improve technology and reduce overall short term and long term costs what the government funding the the Green industries is actually doing is raising prices but not efficiencies.  Instead of advancing the industry government funding, how it is being applied, is artificially inflating prices and government debt as well.

So, in what only Clover Moore's lot would call wisdom, The City Of Sydney is planning to install gas powered turbines throughout the city and instead of burning that "black and dirty coal stuff that is just turning carbon captured sun energy into electricity and CO2" now they are going to burn gas and release Nitrous Oxides and other toxins right in the middle of the city, right where Sydney sider's breath.

You may well think that on top of the cars this is simply going to add more pollution into Sydney – ahhhh well that is where you and I would be WRONG.

Clearly the plan is to progressively choke the roads and push cars out of the city so that pollution from cars can be replaced ...

....by pollution from other sources

...that are replacing the pollution from electricity ... TURN IT UP...I'm Michael Robinson
