Is tourism all about fun or should we have some morality about how we spend our money overseas?

Last Friday an article  by News Corporation’s Travel Editor Brian Crisp appeared in the Travel Advice section of News.com.au and the article was sent to me by a friend of mine who was disgusted at what had been written, as I am.

I’m appalled that News Corporation even ran the story in the way it was written.

All the right information was there in front of the writer, but the story became the travel bloggings of a  funster looking for his next red light fun experience.

In the article Crisp writes about travelling to Thailand with a group of people for more than knock off fashion and their experiences visiting the red light district alleyways and girlie bars for their entertainment.

The article fails to point out that the entertainment and fun value the group of people were seeking out comes from commercialising human degradation, from human trafficking and sex slavery.

Crisp writes about his disappointment how the area is no longer as fun as it once was and that he won’t be going back because it is no longer a fun experience.

So like the article suggests should we just accept that this goes on and accept that this is part of the global economic trade and not be bothered by the inhumanity and degradation of that trade?

...Turn It UP
