New Ministers won't start their jobs with clean slates

This week Julia Gillard made her cabinet reshuffle and the government’s political spin masters will want the reshuffle to be yesterday’s news by now because governments want Cabinet reshuffles to be the opportunities for them to shed old problems like a snake shed’s it’s old skin.

They want to leave the problems that previous Ministers faced in the past and to move on with new policies and renewed agendas, just in time for the next election.
It is a common tactic and one many governments use at least once in their already amazingly short terms but unfortunately it doesn’t mean the problems get resolved if the new Minister doesn’t address them.

I’ve been talking for months about some major problems the previous Health Minister faced regarding a document the NHMRC published reviewing the science on Naltrexone Implants that has been condemned by scientists worldwide as inaccurate and should not only be withdrawn but should be the subject of a public inquiry.
The government will want this issue to go away with the change of Minister.

But it isn’t like they actually resolved the problem of why the NHMRC got it so badly wrong or corrected the publication.

Do we just forget the past and let a new Minister start over with a clean slate?

Turn It Up
