I’m sure by now most people have heard the news comments about the MP who said that smelly immigrants should take a shower and use deodorant.

Although in fact that isn’t quite actually what she said at all.

Opposition citizenship spokeswoman Teresa Gambaro was lambasted by certain sections of the media and her political opponents yesterday for a few words in a rather long statement and sometimes that is what happens and we should be aware of it.
The point that was actually being raised by The Opposition Spokeswoman is both an interesting, and an important one, for a society where we do integrate and for the most part we all get along.

Beyond just considering what we want to do about the community response to issues like this how we deal with it defines us.  Can we have an open debate or are we so tied in knots with political correctness that no one can talk about anything at all?

What do we do about people who we welcome here but were raised to push and shove as an acceptable way to get through a group or do we explain to them when they arrive here that you wait in line?

I suppose we could leave it to the immigration department to explain to people that we wait in orderly lines in Australia.
