Jesus Christ is the Reason for the Season and I'm offended if you even try to ban the Christ in our Christmas

Well it looks like just one day after someone at Centrelink decided to ban any mention or appearance of Christ at Christmas this year thankfully public pressure and a bit of Ministerial good sense has seen that weightless memo overturned.

But here is the comment and the attitude that I want to take issue with.
There are some who say that modern Australia needs to hide Christianity so as to not offend non-Christians.
For many years I've used a saying; “That if you try to offend no-one you end up offending everyone.”

This is thin ice type multi-divisive-split-society-culturalism where we tippy toe around imagined and fabricated sensitivities and sensibilities.  It ignores the reality that Australia has a culture and it is one of recognising we all have our own family culture and backgrounds and heritage. We all have our own personal and religious beliefs and we are not only free to have them, but we are also free to talk about them, celebrate them and to do so publicly.

Frankly if some public servant is holding committee planning meetings on how not to offend people then take note I am offended and I'm confident I'm not the only one.  In this great country I'm sure there are many others who finds it extremely offensive that anyone would even dare consider sanitising Christmas and try to scrub Jesus from the season.

TOUGH line of the day, courtesy of Tanya Plibersek: "I was disappointed to learn today that a junior departmental officer had written a memo to Centrelink and Medicare offices suggesting people should not display nativity scenes as part of Christmas decorations. The memo was inappropriate and I have ordered that the Grinch be found and counselled." Yikes. For good measure, Plibersek wishes every one of us a merry Christmas.

Our Freedoms under attacks

Today The Australian newspaper carries survey results from a Macquarie University survey that reminds us that some in our society are so closed minded that they put the views of atheists and agnostics forward as true and factual and anyone with any other view is treated as somewhat mentally ill and derided.
This has been an attitude by those with spontaneous and self inspired wisdom on the “left” of political discourse and it is hypocritical because if someone had labelled those who don't believe in God has having disturbing beliefs and mocking their views as being simply made up you know they wouldn't stand for it.
Religious instruction in schools is protected by constitutional law (The reason church run schools were given over to the state to run was because the state “promised” to protect these rights) and it is so in order for parents to ensure that the religion they believe is taught to their children.

It isn't a matter for some university lecturer or some philosophy student, or even some radical political social experimenter to decide what your children and mine should be taught about what our family's religious believes. Scripture class is the final place where parents still get to have any influence over how their own children are educated.
I thought we still living in a country where the importance of the family, freedom of religion and freedom of speech were important and protected – yeah right - Turn It Up.

Legalisation of drug use is a confused policy

I've said in the past that you'd have to smoke a lot of dope before you think legalisation of drugs is a good idea, but there are some who want it, and their reasoning is equally as confused when you get into the detail of their argument, nevertheless they are passionate and persistent.

Mind you the current policy in NSW says if you were on a train station you could light up a cannabis joint and get nothing more than a warning but light up a tobacco cigarette and you could appear before a magistrate.

Ethan Nadleman's is the international poster boy for durg legalisation and his current visit to Australia has fired up the local pro-legalisation crowd. Their argument is that law enforcement has failed to stop drug use so we might as well surrender to the problem and tax it.

Most of the people who say this at least publicly express concern over health issues and so long as you don't scratch too far beneath the detail of their argument they argue it passionately, but legalisation equals more use and more use equals more problems.

Look at history of tobacco smoking as a warning because it repeats all the same mistakes - first quasi medicinal claims, then taxing it, none of these prevent the problems of use.

We need a comprehensive prevention policy with education and law enforcement and health all working together for prevention of use. ... and for the intervention and rehabilitation of users.

I know some will claim legalisation is better...Turn It Up.

p.s.
There are quite a lot of ironies and hidden agendas when you start getting into the issues around substance use, abuse and addiction and most of them are pushed by the same kind of people who will light up a cigarette around others and blow smoke in your face because they simply don't care about themselves or about anyone else.
