Government failing us on imports

Grant,
for years you and I, and many others including many on your program, have talked about the dangers of our government regulators letting food imports into the country with a Quarantine and Inspection Service that is asleep on the job.

I'm one of many people who have presented evidence to numerous parliamentary inquiries about the failures of Customs and Quarantine and one of the really frustrating thing is that our government and its departments nod off, they say they are concerned and listening but ignore the hard evidence before them.

With the number of imports from the number of places and the number of known toxins in some of them, and the high danger to our national food security this is not an issue the government can just let slide but that is exactly what has been happening for many years.

The risk isn't just for the community, or primary producers but importers as well, those who are doing the right thing are getting a bad rap too.
Now we have frozen produce and fresh foods being sold on our shelves that have been tested by various independent scientists and found wanting.

Our government doesn't seem to want to upset our trading partners so it is the Australian public who is supposed to swallow foods that are dangerous to our local food security and dangerous to their family's health and well being … Turn It Up.

The Marriage Question

The issue of marriage and who can and cannot marry is one that has now become a distraction for the Federal parliament.
I say a distraction because surely the Federal parliament has far better, far more important things to do than to go meddling in issues of marriage, families and religious conventions and freedoms especially when there is still the Constitutional question unanswered of whether this is even a matter for the Australian Commonwealth Government.

American, Presidential candidate Ron Paul, who has had some good points to say on this issue expressed his view saying that since marriage is a religious matter and religion is a matter for the states then the federal government has no place meddling in this issue.

So what should Australia do about non man - woman unions? Perhaps they could be given a different name even if they are to have the same standing under civil law.

It is a problematic area for any government, because of the religious background and culture that marriage is man and wife.

It is also problematic because the outspoken lobby groups on this issue, the same people who, for years, have demanded free speech, have also said that anyone who disagrees with them shouldn't be allowed to have their say ..... Turn It UP.

Multi-Cultural-ism costs unwanted

First we had the BER, then the insulation program , what was it then? Grocery Watch and other watches and now a flood and disaster levy is necessary because the government cannot find the money any where else.
I guess it is difficult to find that sort of money when you are announcing new government bureaucracies every month.
The Greens want the government to throw in lazy $100 million on so called green subsidy programs, just because the Greens are in the parliamentary blackmail position and they can demand it.

Then late this week to top it all off despite respected world leaders saying that where people do not integrate multiculturalism has been a failure the Australian government is going to spend more of our money, money they've just told us they don't have enough of, in an attempt to brain wash the community into thinking that people who come here don't need to support our way of life or support our values or constitution. The Immigration Minister wants to spend our public money telling us that we have to change our thinking and change our ways so that other people, even people who hate us, feel more welcomed and they get to dictate to us how we can live in our country so they can preserve their way of life, and change ours.
Under his plan they do not need to integrate or become a part of the Australian community because that, as they say is modern Multi-Cultural-ism - … Turn It UP.

Rules Of A Democracy

After yesterday's comment I was taken to task by a few people who know me, some sent me messages online and others spoke to me in person and what they had to say raises an important point.
In brief the issue as I see it is that we as a Christian nation should be showing compassion to those in need.
Whenever the issue of international justice and asylum and refugees comes up this issue does tend to divide Australians and I'm not at all against Australia being compassionate to those in need, lets not forget that as a predominantly Christian nation whatever people's religious faiths we tend to live our lives by Christian morality.

That is why I say we must stop the leaky boats from attempting to make dangerous crossings and putting lives at risk. If we do not then we aren't showing compassion, as I understand it.
Another issue is that of who we allow to stay. Some people say we should screen who we let into this country to ensure that they do fully support the same Christian values and morality.
There is a valid argument that needs to be considered when we consider who we should invite into our country, should we choose Christian over Muslim refugees?
If we look around the world at nations where Muslim laws, values and morality are in place and look at their track record we must decide do we want to become more like those nations … Turn It Up.
