Does a political promise mean anything any more?

Yesterday’s Lower House vote on the Carbon Tax legislation will go down in Australian history.

Either as a day of infamy or as a significant day when Australia took the lead on not just changing Australia and not just changing the world, but some will say on saving the world.

Never mind how voters actually voted at the last election.

It is important to look at more than just what Julia Gillard and Wayne Swan said - and take a look at the entire ALP, The Liberals -  Nation coalition together and collectively.

Together the collective of the 3 major parties hold a majority in the Lower house with an overwhelming combined majority of Parliamentary members who  were elected on a policy, and a promise, to NOT introduce a carbon tax.

Let me say that another way.

There are two members of the Lower House, who went to the election last year telling their electorate that they would support a carbon tax.

The rest of the parliament were elected saying that they would not support a carbon tax....

...making yesterday a significant day for the Australian parliament and democracy.....

Turn It Up
