Yesterday we learned that more than half a million school children left school, over the last decade, not having learned to swim.
Teachers tell us they want more money and I know the curriculum is croweded and I’ll speak about this issue more next week
Today I wanted to mention a school concert I attended earlier this week - where bright young school students from the combined local schools gave speeches, read poems and played in a combined band.
A brilliant combined school band of mostly ten year olds.
One speech that sticks in my mind was from an articulate young girl who had given her speech many times and she spoke about beliefs.
She gave an example that many people once thought the world was flat, and they believed that until satellites were launched and satellites proved that the world was round.
It was great to see our public education at work. Teachers encouraging children to think for themselves and to speak confidently like the leaders and politicians of tomorrow.
Encouraging them to applaud confident arguments and well explained concepts.
But what about accurate research and teachers actually teaching.
