Cost blow outs in housing and in commercial properties isn’t a new thing in capital cities like Sydney and the high costs spill over to the rest of the nation.

High profits for investors is one reason governments have been slow to NOT release more land, but also slow to designate low rise areas as high rise areas, and that should and must be urgently addressed.

They must govern for the people not just for those people who thank them with donations from their property portfolio profits.

The carry on and thuggish loutish behaviour of the anti corporate greed people in Sydney two nights discredits their underlying message.

No credible person wants to be associated with that sort of behaviour.
But lets not leave the government out of this.

Almost a decade ago now I attended a meeting where some of the then opposition NSW Coalition members, and senior decision makers in NSW, were told by a global city planning expert that if NSW free up more land and relaxed development restrictions a decision like that  would massively reduce both the cost of housing across NSW and the flow on effects would reduce transport congestion.

Business would spread to where the workers lived.

IS this government listening to that advice it offered in Opposition?

P.S. I spoke about this on the Grant Goldman program early in the 2000's. I unfortunately cannot recall the name or company of the expert who attended and spoke but he gave examples of cities who had taken this advice and improved living conditions for all city residents in many American previously congested cities.
