Yesterday I mentioned my bad pizza experience at Earwood Coles on Friday. While I was there I took a quick look at the prices of tinned pineapple pieces. This summer we have bought quite a lot of the stuff and I thought I’d have a look and see what their prices were.
For example a tin of Australian Grown and packaged Golden Circle Pineapple Pieces were on sale at $1.94 but the all important value price was $4.41 per kilo
Coles in house coloured label brand for $3 and two cents per kilo product of Indonesia
Coles white label in house brand was $2.53 per kilo and were a Product of Thailand
that is close to two thirds the Aussie product prices
Setting the quality issue aside for a moment.
Even if the overseas products were only purchased by those who solely rely on Government welfare payments to purchase food to feed themselves have a think about this point.
That means Australian taxpayers through the welfare payments to the poor are keeping overseas farmers in business.
That means less sales for Australian farmers, and what if eventually they go out of business , they and the industries that support them all end up on welfare too?.
Do any of us think for a second that if there was no more work in Australia because we stopped buying products that kept us in work that China’s government or the people of Indonesia would give us money to feed our families?
