NSW Premier picks fight she is unlikely to win

I was more than a little surprised at NSW Premier KRISTINA KENEALLY 's ultimatum to the Labor party to drop NSW ALP president, Bernie Riordan for his recent comments.

Sure we all understand she is furious over what he said, but Premier do you have to pose for the angry look photos on The Punch website?

If one of your party's key people starts talking about loosing faith in the government you are running,, in this case someone quite influential in the union movement and the party, sure it is upsetting but this is the politics of democratic representation and loyalty is not a requirement, loyalty comes from results and the message the Premier seems to have missed is the public isn't happy with the results.

A lot of people have said that the Liberals are guaranteed a win at next year's NSW state election but I can't agree. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the ALP went to the election with a new team and an old tactic asking the public for a do over with a team of fresh faces and fresh policies and promises. If the Premier wants to throw down ultimatums to powerful party officials with her government's track record she is just as likely to be told to ….Turn it up. I'm Michael Robinson

Laws need to be enforced, but only on those who don't voluntarily comply.

Well what a weekend it has been, Julia Gillard has promised that next year she will take action on her political romises, and Bob Brown has told people its not easy being Green. Well I'd say not easy being watermelon green in an Australian summer when you you wear a green mask and claim to be green and are pink and red commie on the inside of your political policies.
But this past weekend gets even weirder. Willie Nelson has been arrested by immigration officials in Texas for importing pot. Yep the grass smoking Willie pro-drug-legalisation campaigner has had the law catch up with him and aren't the pro-legalisation crowd going to town in support of him.
Frankly, I've heard all the crazy lines before the most obscure one is that marijuana is a plant so it can't possibly hurt you is a line that is often used in total ignorance of any number of natural plants that will kill you.
Of course there are some who want to debate the merits and issues all week but the bottom line with anyone in America, just as it is in Australia, is that the law says it is illegal to posses a prohibited substance and cannabis is one of those.

Of course there is always someone who claims that the law should not apply to them because they don't agree with it, Turn It Up...Laws need to be enforced, but only on those who don't voluntarily comply.

Come on lets support police not radical protests

Last week there was an interesting story of a woman who made a false allegation against a police officer. Now I rarely comment on matters before the courts, and a lot of people would already know the story so I don't want to go into it specifics, so lets just talk generally.

When will we see a group of Australians, and it doesn't matter their skin colour, doesn't matter what their religion is, standing side by side with police, wearing blue arm bands and waving Aussie flags or blue flags and sending a message that this Australian our community is one where we support our police. In Australia we don't support those who bring false allegations and try to lie their way out of paying the penalty for what they have done wrong. We do take seriously the importance of the population of Australia both getting along and obeying they laws.

There has been quite a lot of talk, particularly among anti-Muslim groups about organising some confronting protests - dressing up in black hand confronting Muslim around the courts during these types of cases – Turn It Up!

Pedestrian safety not a sacred cow

Perhaps I'm just getting older and grumpier or perhaps I am simply more aware of this lately but as a driver I think Sydney's pedestrians have become a pest on the roads, they are more random and more dangerous than a kangaroo on the side of the open road at night and many wander around just like the sacred cows in India as if they own the road and every one else has to give way to them.

I grew up in the country in Northern New South Wales and I was taught that as a pedestrian we had to avoid the cars, they are bigger, faster, harder to stop and frankly, they hurt a lot when they hit you.

Over the past few years I've seen the usual news stories about road safety for pedestrians but what I haven't seen is a pedestrian education campaign to tell pedestrians to watch out for themselves.

Many people on foot behave as if they have the right to wander where-ever they may choose and vehicle drivers simply have to stop or dodge them.
Being a pedestrian is not a sacred cow, isn't it time people took some responsibility for their own safety and stopped walking across the road without looking. Oh you trust someone else who you have never met - to see you in time - and stop before they smash you into the asphalt, Turn It Up
